Lack of life oriented education and employment opportunities coupled with inequalities in education, acute habitation problem, shortage of health services, nutrition problem, social isolation, lack of exposure to outside world, limited access to information etc. are being the roundabout causes and effects of poverty, SSS for about two decades has been implementing different poverty alleviation programs.
To accelerate the process of poverty alleviation at the household level where women has a special stake, the SSS, based on its experience, has now-a-days shifted attention to women as beneficiaries.
Considered as the strategic vehicle, SSS organizes the target group members into informal functional groups and then promote them to a sustainable and self-managed entity to take care of their own interest and self-development activities.
While the group development process incorporates some disciplinary principles like mandatory weekly meeting, savings, establishment of democratic management and transparent maintenance of records and books of accounts etc., interventions towards socio-economic empowerment encompass training, credit and technical backstopping facilitating target group access to local productive resources and services.
Aimed as above, SSS operates different lines activities under the following programs:
- Rural Micro Credit
- Urban Micro Credit
- Small Entrepreneurship Development
- Hard Core Poor Support
- Rural House Building Loan
- Safe Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation
- Credit Support to Fisheries
- Agricultural Credit
- Goat Rearing Loan
- Rehabilitation and Credit Support to Sex Workers' Self Employment Initiatives
