Every body wants to live. As a rational animal peoples expectation are much higher than other creature. Some are legal others are illegal but Shilpi's expectation was legal forwarding to rehabilitate herself in the society. Shilpi was working in Sahana Safe Home as main cook. Once she was prostitute.
Due to her intensity SSS rescued her from barbarian brothel and gave a job in Sahana Safe Home. Her son Sohel was in the Sonar Bangla Children Home. She has been working for one& half years there and able to give up all bad habits that were tied up in her brothel life. During her stay in the home she looks after children as a mother. Finally she married Mr. Ansar Ali in May'2001. Mr. Ansar Ali knew everything regarding Shilpi's painful brothel life and agreed to marry her. Due to socialization process rehabilitation of commercial sex workers in Bangladeshi society is little but difficult. Similarly the sex worker who engaged in sex profession is extremely hated, stigmatised and unacceptable by society and religion. They are not allowed to enjoy their basic human rights and exercise religious practice in social life. Sex workers face strong resistance from local community and society when they try to resettle and rehabilitative them selves by abandoning their degraded life & profession. The mainstream community, even after death, does not permit sex workers to burry or cremate their dead bodies. Their dead body are thrown into river. They are also not allowed to wear shoes ad footwear when they go outside the brothel. Although brothel woman earn significant amounts of money till they are in their mid-youth, they cannot accurately enjoy their hard-earned income money. Most of their earnings go the pockets of the exploitive groups. It happens so mainly due to their illiteracy, ignorance, lack of human skills, unity & low self esteem compounded with decade long exploitive socio-culture and hateful attitude of the society. They do not have access to health & education service, credit, information, recreation etc available to the community. But SSS made a successful story in this regard with the help of Mr.Ansar Ali, a broad-minded young man. Mr.Ansar Ali brought Shilpi in his house as a housewife. He also took Sohel with his mother and admitted him in the local primary school. Seven months later of her marriage we simply asked her how are you Shilpi? She answered positively with smiling, "Quite well". |
