Sonia's Story - An Example of Rehabilitation   PDF  Print  E-mail

SSS childSonia Akter lived in Sonar Bangla Children Home has been rehabilitated by giving marriage with a young man Mr. Abdur Rahim in February 2004.  SSS arranged this marriage with consent of Sonia. SSS took this step because Sonia's mother (Sufia) wanted to involve her (Sonia) in the sex business. Knowing the fact, SSS tried to convince Sonia's mother, provide counseling on negative impact and social impact of sex profession but she was aggressive.

Finding no ways SSS asked help from police. Finally Sonia's mother  agree to give marriage  Sonia with Rahim, her nephew. He is an undergraduate and has been recruited by SSS as an employee. The new couple is very happy. SSS invited many guest on the occasion of marriage ceremony including SSS president, deputy director administration, local elites and religious leader.

They are in touch with SSS, and hoping that she will play a pioneer role to rehabilitate her in the society. Please note that Sonia had been rescued from Kandapara brothel five years before. We identified that Sonia is not Sufia's own daughter, she adopted Sonia with an ill motive to engage her in the sex profession when she would grow up.
