Rural Micro-credit Programme
To support the resource poor rural disadvantaged community in their economic activities, the Rural Micro-credit Programme was launched in 1992. This programme seems to have been positively contributing to capital accumulation and optimal utilization of available skills and experiences of the rural target group community and thereby to their self-confidence and creativity. The increased income from credit supported IGAs - meaning enhanced purchasing power of the rural people - have created a momentum in the rural economy. Women members of households thus being benefited from this credit programme are now more self-dependent and have the better opportunities to participate in decision-making regarding family affairs and financial matters.
Urban Micro Credit Programme
Engaged in different trades and service providing activities, the poor and lower middle class people of any urban area play an important economic role. But they are, in most cases, deprived of necessary technical and credit support. The traditional banking system is unable to fulfill their demand for credit and, for that reason; many potential businesses are being run at sub-optimal level. To assist such depriving members of the urban population, SSS has been organizing them in credit worthy groups and extending credit ranging from TK 10,000/- to TK 30,000/-. |
