Use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in our country has increased agricultural production cost to a great extent. But it has adversely affected the soil fertility and production potential of land.
To overcome this problem, promotion of use of organic manure echo-environment friendly cultivation practices are urgently needed. With that end in view, SSS has undertaken this programme in 2002. Presently implementing in Rasulpur, Bikramohati and Kuizbari areas of Tangail district, the farmers are being motivated and trained on procedures of processing and application of organic fertilizers. Initially, three villages around Rasulpur, Bikramohati and Kuizbari farm have been selected and the following activities are being carried out. - Discouraging indiscriminate and imbalanced use of chemical fertilizers
- Encouraging IPM practices
- Processing and preservation of compost in the farmers' field
- Encouraging line sowing/transplanting
- Encouraging plantation of multi purpose trees
- Familiarizing the bio-agro technologies among the wider farming community
