Migrated from some distant and disadvantaged areas of India, the sweepers’ community with different culture and vocabulary has been living sub-human life in all over the country. They are considered untouchable and far away from the civil society people.
To help them out from such vicious circle of poverty and socio-cultural backwardness, SSS has established an ‘ Ideal Primary School’ at the Harizon Palli (Sweepers’ Colony) in Tangail. At present, 210 children are reading in pre-school level to class V. Besides regular curricula, the children in this school are given special lessons on arts and culture, health care, physical exercises and on different vocational trades.
Motivated the parents on regular basis, enrolments in this school are gradually increasing and people of the nearby community have started looking upon the children differently than before. Also the members of the sweepers community have come to understand that education is the only way to change their lot. They are more cooperative now than before and careful of sending their kids to the SSS School; while schooling of their children was unthinkable before SSS was there to motivate them for long time. |
