This programme was launched first in 1995 by organizing target children of Gala Union under Tangail Sadar Thana. This programme is mainly to help children grow as worthy citizens by nurturing their genius and latent qualities to flourish to their best.
Started with 772 children organized in 34 clubs, a total of 3000 children organized in 50 male and 50 female clubs are being worked with under this programme. The objectives of the programme are to foster amity and friendship among the children enabling them to establish their rights of expression and materialize family and social rights through communication among themselves. The strategic implementation steps are: - Organization of 'Child Club' with open membership for all children irrespective of caste and creed, rich and poor, literate and illiterate
- Supporting them in extra curricular activities contributive to their both physical and mental growth, such as games, sports, theatre, debate, singing, and dancing
- Organizing child forums at different levels, such as Ward, Union and Thana
- Observation of different special days like World Child Day, Child Rights Week
- Encouraging and arranging for child participation in different functions and occasions
- Backstopping services to publication of new letters, wall magazines
- Establishing linkage between children and local news papers and other public media
- Organizing cultural functions, theatre, debate, games competition etc.
- Raising awareness among the children and their parents about child rights as enunciated in the UN Convention on Child Rights
Education is the pre-requisite for socio-economic development of any country. So, it is considered as the backbone of any nation. Also it is said that primary education is the foundation for the follow on higher levels of education. But unfortunately, the quality of education in both primary and higher levels is awfully poor in the schools available in the SSS operation areas.
In many schools extra curricular activities take place very seldom. The traditional modes and methods education can hardly attract the children to school. Indifferent and boring style of education results in eventual early drop out from schools. Neither the guardians nor the school management committees are active to improve the situation. The foreseeable consequence is so grave. Moved by the urgency of the situation, SSS has started on pilot basis a programme of 'Improvement of School Education Standards'. Initially identified three primary schools and three Secondary High Schools to support them to develop education standards. The activities planned under this programme are purported to bring qualitative changes in the education methods and facilities on the one hand and better interactions and cooperation between the schools teachers and guardians, on the other. |
