The health service program of SSS has been implemented in two ways : (a) Preventive and (b) Curative. SSS has given more emphasis on preventive method and established 16 static clinics which are managed by Medical Assistants and other concerned staffs for raising awareness among the people regarding the prevention of diseases along with curative measures.
Activities for Prevention of Diseases
Following are the measures adopted for prevention of diseases through health care related video, group discussion, community meeting, and personal contact:
Personal hygiene and environment Reproductive health and child care Family planning Immunization of children, expectant mothers and women of age 15-49 years Nutrition and balanced food intake Causes of STD/HIV and precautionary measures thereabout Safe water and sanitation Pregnant and lactating mothers health care Maternal and child health care Adolescent health care Arsenicosis Water borne diseases
In 2004 from January to November 66,225 persons have been given awareness raising training through 2196 sessions regarding preventive health care.
Activities for curative health services
In total 70,830 patients have been given curative treatment through the SSS hospital, 16 static clinics and 3168 satellite clinics from January to November, 2004 along with the preventive measures. The patients were for Gynae, Surgery, Medicine, Skin diseases, Diarrhoea, Pediatric, Malnutrition, ENT, Dental and other diseases. For proper and prompt diagnosis the hospital has been made well equipped with modern accessories like ECG, X-Ray, Pathology, Ultrasonography etc. 12,565 patients have been facilitated with various pathological test for detection of diseases from January to November, 2004. SSS hospital remains open for the patients for 24 hours. The beneficiaries of the following programs of SSS are also provided with the health services through the health program.
Health Services during Disaster
SSS extends hands to provide health services during and after various types of disaster like flood, cyclone, erosion of river etc. During the devastating flood of 2004, 21 Medical Teams were formed in 10 Upazilas of Tangail district with joint collaboration of TdH-Netherlands and MSF-Holland to provide health services to the flood affected people attacked with various diseases. 30,062 patients were treated by the Medical Teams with free medicine. |
