Health Care Services under the Child Development Program

SSS DoctorUnder this program, all sorts of health services are being provided to the students of the Ideal Primary School established by SSS, the brothel children in the Sonar Bangla Children Home, Working children of satellite schools, Domestic children and the children engaged in the Bidi Factories from free of cost. In addition to the health services these children are examined for routine check. Doctors, Medical Assistants and Counselors associated with the SSS health program are always available for personal hygiene of those children and environmental awareness raising.


Ethnic Slum Dwellers and Sex Workers Health Services Program

To ensure the health services for the vulnerably poor dwellers of sweeper colony and sex workers in the brothel who are usually deprived from the opportunity of the state and society, SSS has established a clinic near the brothel at Kandapara of Tangail Town with the financial support of TdH-Netherlands. The ethnic group of people, sex workers and slum-dwellers of the town are given health services from this clinic. A fulltime medical team headed by one MBBS doctor has been assigned for the clinic.


Extended Program on Immunization (EPI)

SSS doctorUnder the Extended Program on Immunization the SSS Hospital remains open in every Sunday from 9:00 AM. to 2:00 PM. for the purpose of child vaccination against various diseases. Also, the expectant mothers and newborn babies are given TT vaccines for safe delivery and to protect both mother and child from tetanus. During the period from January to November, 2004. 1658 women have been given tetanus vaccines.

ID Program

The National Immunization Day is observed by SSS with a view to assist in the Govt. Program. The targeted children are immunized in this day through the SSS Hospital and clinics. Under this program the children are administered Polio Vaccines and high potency vitamin-A capsules in SSS hospital, slum area, brothel and sweeper colony.

During the period from January to October, 2004, 5470 children have been given vitamin-A capsules and 6564 children have been vaccinated by polio drops. This year about 6000 children have been administered medicine for deworming.


Nutrition Promotional Program

Mother and childSSS has started nutrition promotional program on experimental basis in 22 villages under Gala Union of Tangail Sadar Upazila with the aim to alleviate malnutrition and related complications in case of pregnant women, lactating mothers and babies. Community meeting, video show, posters, leaflets, flip charts, stickers are the means of community based education on different issues of nutrition promotion.

Besides, preparation of balanced food for the malnutrient children, training on baby food preparation, dissemination of information on various sources of nutrition are provided to the targeted beneficiaries. The health workers of SSS provide health education on nutrition promotion in the open-yard meetings organized through static clinics managed by SSS hospital.


Health Services Camp

In addition to the preventive and curatives health services SSS organizes health camps by specialized and foreign doctors for treatment of heart, dental, cjustify lip and eye diseases.


Awareness Raising Program

Awareness raising among the beneficiaries on general health, hygiene, nutrition, sanitation, safe drinking water, causes of common diseases and STD/HIV as well as the basic issues of reproductive health and child care is also important component of the health program of SSS. This is done to promote good health and to avoid waterborne diseases. Those who have no tube wells on their homesteads are provided credit support for tube-well installation.

Since 1994 SSS has undertaken the "Sanitary Latrine Promotion Program". Beneficiaries who have no latrines at their residences are being supplied with all necessary materials for installation of sanitary latrine. Financial support for this purpose is also provided through credit.
